How to connect an MCP server to Cursor

@ai-supply · 3mo ago

Overview

Cursor supports the Model Context Protocol, so any compliant MCP server plugs in and exposes its tools to the in-editor agent.

Steps

  1. Choose a server from the catalog — filter by the MCP kind on the categories page and check its Security report.
  2. Open Cursor's MCP settings and add the server (command + args for a local server, or a URL for a hosted one).
  3. Reload Cursor so it negotiates the connection and loads the tools.
  4. Test by asking the agent to use one of the server's tools.

Good practice

  • Enable only the tools you need (least privilege).
  • Pick high-grade, security-scanned servers — that's the whole point of a vetted marketplace.

New to the agent side? The quickstart walks through keys and scopes. Find servers on the marketplace.
